Web Development has come a long way since the late '90s when it started to go mainstream. And in the world of Internet and Web, that era has become an ancient history although it has been just two decades. It started with HTML, the markup language for the web. CSS and JavaScript came along and simple static "word-document" like webpages started becoming wow. Since then, HTML sits at the heart of web. But today’s scenario is different. Frameworks are the pivot of the web today. Developers don’t have to swim and sometimes sink in the ocean of <div>. Building web-pages purely using text-editors are long gone. And yes, now they are required to understand modern technologies that have evolved from HTML, CSS and JavaScript. From CSS preprocessors to ever counting numerous JavaScript libraries and frameworks. And for many reasons HTML, CSS & JavaScript are used much more than they were originally meant to be.

And HTML still sits at the heart of the web.

But there’s a risk. The risk of losing focus. The risk of losing focus on following standards and best practices. The HTML is parsed to create a DOM when a web browser loads a web page. The browser then renders the content to the user. Interactive pages are built by manipulating the same DOM. So if there are issues with HTML or the markup is incorrect, both the web-page’s look and and its functionality may alter or completely break.

Therefore, the difference between an accessible and a usable page and a completely untidy and tangled noodle of <div> … is the time wisely spent on writing quality HTML code and following best standards.

Standards compliant HTML is very likely to last or remain popular for a long time. Also HTML features are rarely deprecated. But frameworks might come and go. And the ever growing agitation among "most" of the Web developers is the long existence of their work. Or for some, lastingness. Or simply existence.

Standards themselves will be the single important consideration in favor of writing more clean HTML. All this has led to the evolution of HTML we knew back in that "ancient era" to HTML5 which focuses highly on what today’s users generally expect on a web-page when they are on the web. And supports a typical web development in clean and readable ways to implement functionalities. But even with so many advanced features, designing pages badly has become much more easier than before and getting sunk in the ocean of <div>. There are numerous solutions that offer modularity on top of web languages to minimize this problem.

But eventually there’s no replacement or a substitute for using time wisely to write HTML code effectively and this practice is very crucial for today’s every modern web developers as it was in for them in those "ancient era".

Last year, I found myself standing at the threshold of my 40th year—a juncture where reflection meets anticipation. As I pen down these thoughts, a cascade of emotions unfolds, weaving a narrative of lessons learned, dreams chased, and the subtle undercurrents of change that mark the passage of time.

The morning began with a quiet introspection, a ritual that has become customary as birthdays approach. The mirror reflects not just the lines etched on my face but the journey etched in my soul. Turning 40 feels like standing at the summit of a mountain, gazing at the valleys below—each crevice a story, each peak a triumph.

There's a certain nostalgia that accompanies the turning of another year. It's a time machine of memories, whisking me back to the wide-eyed dreams of youth and the naive ambitions that once fueled my spirit. The laughter of the past mingles with the echoes of challenges faced, creating a symphony that resonates with the soundtrack of my life.

Simultaneously, there's an undeniable weight to the realization that the forties loom on the horizon. It's a reminder that time, like an unyielding river, flows ceaselessly. The dreams I've chased and those I've deferred all find a place in this introspective moment. There's a certain gravity to the recognition that the canvas of my life is painted not just with vibrant hues but also with the muted tones of missed opportunities.

Yet, amidst the musings on time's relentless march, there's a flicker of excitement for the chapters yet to unfold. The 40th year holds the promise of new beginnings, uncharted territories, and a deeper understanding of self. It's an age where the wisdom of experience converges with the curiosity of the unknown, creating a potent alchemy that propels me forward.

In the coming year, I aspire to embrace change with an open heart and a resilient spirit. The canvas is not complete, and each day offers a blank page for new stories to be written. There's an inherent beauty in the ebb and flow of life, and turning forty is a gentle reminder to dance with the rhythm of the universe.

As the day unfolds, I'm surrounded by the warmth of well-wishes, the comforting embrace of loved ones, and the simple joys that make life exquisite. The blend of gratitude and contemplation colors the atmosphere, creating a mosaic of emotions that is uniquely mine.

As I stand on the cusp of living fifth decade of my life, there's an undeniable sense of excitement and introspection that accompanies the journey into this new chapter of life. It's not just a numerical milestone; it feels like a canvas awaiting the brushstrokes of creativity, the verses of poetry, and the footprints of adventure.

Embracing Art:

The turning of 40 sparks a newfound appreciation for the beauty that surrounds me. The world transforms into a gallery, and every moment becomes a masterpiece waiting to be savored. Art, in its various forms, has become a companion on this journey. Whether it's the stroke of a paintbrush, the melody of a song, or the dance of words on a page, I find solace and inspiration in the creative tapestry that life weaves.

Poetry of the Soul:

There's a poetic resonance to this age, a rhythm that syncs with the heartbeat of the universe. Poetry has become my language of introspection, a means to express the nuances of emotion that words alone may fail to capture. Each day is a stanza, and every experience is a verse, creating a poetic narrative that unfolds with the grace of a well-composed sonnet.

Generosity as a Guiding Light:

Turning 40 brings with it a deeper understanding of the joy found in giving. The act of generosity, whether in kindness, time, or resources, has become a guiding principle. The realization that true abundance lies not just in what I possess but in what I can share with others has become a source of fulfillment. There's a richness in the tapestry of life that generosity weaves, connecting the threads of humanity in a profound way.

Spirituality as a Source of Strength:

The journey into my late thirties has witnessed a deepening connection with spirituality. It's not just about rituals and doctrines but a quest for meaning and transcendence. Spirituality has become a wellspring of strength, a compass guiding me through the ebbs and flows of life. In moments of stillness, I find a communion with the divine, a source of solace that transcends the material realm.

Embracing Adventure:

As the calendar turns another page, the spirit of adventure beckons me. Turning 40 is an invitation to explore uncharted territories, both external and internal. Whether it's traversing landscapes unseen or delving into the unexplored realms of my own potential, there's a thrill in embracing the unknown. Adventure becomes not just a physical journey but a mindset—a willingness to step into the unfamiliar with courage and curiosity.

In the time management process, execution is the hardest part. When you've a detailed plan to spend your tracked time in a wise manner, the next step is to put your plan into action. And you do this by using a tool called Time Boxing.

So what is Time Boxing anyway?

It is a planning tool that's a hybrid of a calendar and a to-do list. It is somewhat like preparing schedules of meetings with yourself by setting the agenda, setting the time, and showing up on time prepared to work. The benefit of this is that you can take advantage of any efficiencies because it helps you assemble similar tasks that are either of high priority or less importance.

Calendar after Timeboxing – image credit to Danielle Morrill via Medium

Most often, when we create a to-do list of tasks, we create it arbitrarily. And we blindly try to accomplish whatever is on top of the list without following or thinking about the most logical or efficient sequence. And thus the value, importance, and priority level of each task is not taken into account. So we end up from one activity to the next in a random manner.

Time Boxing helps prevent that kind of randomness and brings the following:

Accountability. There's a best chance of making sure you'll give the right amount of time to your most important task, if you schedule in advance and figure out how long you're going to work on a task.

Efficiency. More done in less time. How? Group similar tasks together. No change of gears between tasks.

Healthy Pressure. You are more likely to push yourself ahead and get the task done, when you know you only have a set amount of time to accomplish that task.

Focus. Setting time constraints will make you able to keep your attention on the task at hand.

Time Awareness. Being on the clock will help you attain focus and be productive. And you'll less likely give away that time to other activities.

Effectiveness. Setting a time limit will help you to supress or kill the urge to spend too much time on less important things and details and make you effective in spending more time on the bigger picture instead.

And how do you set up your time boxes?

The following is how you create your time-boxing system. And the table below that shows an example.

Review your week.

Prioritize the items on the list

Estimate time for tasks

Slot time boxes into your calendar

Review your estimates

So finally the ways to prioritize tasks

The most critcal questions to ask when setting up a daily schedule? Which task to do first, second, and so on? If we can think this through, we can prevent spending more time on things that matter less.

Prioritizing our tasks will simplify our decision-making process and we can make better decisions on a more consistent basis.

If you have ever come across or read the book 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, you might have seen the following two-by-two matrix:

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="https://www.blog.chandan.com.np/media/posts/7/2cea815287946a8c3b031f50d14035b5.png" alt="Stephen R.
Time management Quadrant - Stephen R Covey

So the thing to do is deciding if an item on your to-do list or a new task is urgent (needs to be done soon) or not-urgent, and whether it's important (will have a big impact) or unimportant. And finaly apply the following preestablished rules.

Urgent and important: High priority tasks. The crises and deadlines to deal with throughout the week. These should always be our highest priority.

Not urgent but important: Tasks with high impact but not time sensitive. These are the tasks to the long term goals. These tasks need to be made second priority because since they are not urgent, enough time to not devoted for them.

Urgent but less important: Quickly need to be done tasks but they have a lower impact if not done or late. You need to consider and think about the impact not only on you but also on the your group or organization. These should be your third priority.

Not urgent and less important: It is as the name says. Not urgent and don't require any immediate attention. Must always be of last priority.

Conclusion: The right work at the righ time. This can be achieved if you use these priorities to help guide your schedule.

Paradoxically, the individuals who achieve the highest levels of success are often less prone to perfectionism. This is because the relentless pursuit of perfection can lead to overwhelming doubt and indecision, hindering the ability to bring tasks to a timely and effective conclusion. In contrast, those who embrace a more pragmatic approach, acknowledging imperfections and focusing on progress, are better equipped to navigate challenges and achieve success without being paralyzed by the quest for flawlessness.

Why are we fueled by perfectionism? Perhaps it's an attempt to shield yourself from feelings of shame or judgment. While it might seem like you're striving to impress a discerning boss, the underlying motivations often trace back to a desire to prove oneself, whether to parents who may still influence us or to an internalized critic that has become the loudest voice in our heads. Understanding the roots of perfectionism can be a crucial step in dismantling its hold on our actions and decisions.

The longstanding companion, perfectionism, won't bid farewell overnight, and exercises alone may not be sufficient to ease its grip. The article's aim here is to guide you on the path to recovery by introducing fresh perspectives.

Consider trying the following approaches to reshape your mindset.

Embrace Imperfection: Perfectionism often stems from a fear of failure or judgment. Instead of striving for flawless outcomes, embrace the beauty of imperfection. Recognize that mistakes and setbacks are integral parts of growth and learning. Shift your mindset to view imperfections as opportunities for improvement and innovation. By accepting the imperfect nature of progress, you free yourself from the paralyzing grip of perfectionism.

Set Realistic Goals: Break down your tasks into manageable and realistic goals. Perfectionists often set excessively high standards, leading to frustration and procrastination. Establish achievable milestones, allowing yourself to celebrate small victories along the way. This approach not only fosters a sense of accomplishment but also reduces the overwhelming pressure associated with pursuing unattainable perfection. Remember, progress is progress, regardless of its scale.

Focus on the Process, Not Just the Outcome: Shift your focus from solely fixating on the end result to appreciating the journey and the process of creation. Perfectionists tend to be outcome-driven, seeking flawlessness at the expense of enjoying the creative or problem-solving process. Cultivate mindfulness and immerse yourself in the present moment. By valuing the steps taken and the lessons learned, you not only enhance your overall experience but also alleviate the undue stress associated with achieving a perfect outcome.

Find your motivation: Similar to breaking any detrimental habit, embarking on the journey to overcome perfectionism is most effective when fueled by strong motivation. Take a moment to reflect on what experiences you might be missing out on due to the fear of falling short of perfection. Pinpoint and articulate those specific situations, and you've uncovered a powerful source of motivation. This newfound awareness can serve as a catalyst for change, propelling you towards a healthier and more balanced approach to life.

Perfectionism can be a formidable barrier to personal and professional growth. By embracing imperfection, setting realistic goals, and focusing on the process, you can break free from the shackles of perfectionism and foster a healthier, more productive mindset.

Today I turn 40. Forty. Four decades of being on Earth. Approaching forty has been a paradox of emotions, a delicate balance between the weight of time's passage and the lightness that comes with a deeper understanding of self. It's as if the hands of the clock are both carrying the burdens of yesteryears and gently lifting the veils that shrouded my true essence.

The heaviness settles in as I reflect on the years gone by, filled with experiences, both joyous and challenging. There's a sense of nostalgia, a recognition of the roads I've traveled and the footprints left along the way. The weight comes from the realization that time is a relentless force, marking the chapters of my life with indelible ink.

Today marks a significant milestone in my journey towards spirituality, a path I embarked upon with curiosity and an open heart. The subtle shifts in my inner landscape have been both profound and liberating, like a gentle breeze gradually transforming a barren landscape into a lush, vibrant garden.

As I sit down to reflect on this transformative journey, I am reminded of the small yet powerful moments that have shaped my understanding of spirituality. It began with a simple desire to explore the depths of my soul and understand the purpose behind my existence. I felt an innate yearning for a connection beyond the tangible, a longing for something greater than the mundane routines of everyday life.

Mornings have become sacred rituals for me – a time to delve into the realms of meditation and introspection. The quietude of the early hours allows me to connect with the stillness within, a space where the noise of the external world fades away, and I can hear the whispers of my soul. The rising sun serves as a metaphor for my own awakening, casting its warm glow on the shadows of my doubts and fears.

I've found solace in the wisdom of ancient texts and teachings, drawing inspiration from various spiritual traditions and world religions. Each sacred word resonates with a universal truth, weaving a tapestry of understanding that transcends the boundaries of organized religion. The more I explore, the more I realize that spirituality is a deeply personal journey, a quest for inner peace and self-realization.

Practicing mindfulness has become a cornerstone of my spiritual transformation. I've learned to embrace the present moment, savoring the beauty of each breath and the symphony of sounds that surround me. This heightened awareness has allowed me to release the grip of past regrets and future anxieties, fostering a sense of gratitude for the gift of the here and now.

Yogi Aarya, the synonym of Gratitude, in fact, has become a guiding light on my path. I find myself expressing thanks to my spiritual master for transforming me to enjoy the simplest joys – a warm cup of tea, the rustle of leaves in the wind, or the smile of a stranger. In cultivating gratitude and spending majestic moments with my guru, I've discovered an abundance of blessings in the ordinary, a reminder that the divine is present in the mundane.

Challenges have not ceased to exist, but my perspective has shifted. Instead of viewing obstacles as roadblocks, I see them as opportunities for growth and lessons from the universe. Each trial becomes a stepping stone, guiding me towards a deeper understanding of my own resilience and the interconnectedness of all things.

In this transformative journey, I've also forged connections with like-minded souls. The shared exploration of spirituality has created a sense of community and mutual support. Conversations about the mysteries of existence and the search for meaning have enriched my understanding, providing a mirror through which I see my own reflections in the stories of others.

As I close this entry, I am filled with a profound sense of gratitude for the unfolding journey. The path towards spirituality is not a destination but a continuous evolution, a dance with the rhythms of the cosmos. I eagerly anticipate the lessons that await me, knowing that each step brings me closer to the essence of my true self.

We often get into pothole, on treadmills, caught up in daily habitual patterns that aren't useful and meaningful. We keep doing the same things in our life everyday, every week, every month - fighting the same problem, struggling with the same weaknesses, repeating the same mistakes. We don't really learn from our lives. And we don't stop to ask: What can I learn from this week that will keep next week from essentially being a repeat of the same?

Evaluation

The value of any week is not limited to what we do in it; it's also in what learn from it and become as a result of it. For this reason, no week's experience would be complete without some kind of evaluation that enables us to process it.

Evaluation is the final step - and the first step - in a living and learning cycle that creates an upward spiral growth. It takes us back to the beginning of the process again, but with greater capacity. As we learn from living, we're better prepared to review our mission and roles, set goals, create a framework for a new week and act with greater integrity in the moment of choice.

As we organize, act, evaluate ... organize, act, evaluate ... organize, act, evaluate again and again, our weeks become repeating cycles of learning and growth.

The living and learning cycle is the spirit of kaizen --- the Japanese word for the spirit of continuous improvement. It's in direct contrast to the Western mentality of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

It's applying Peter Senge's Fifth Discipline of effective, learning organizations on a personal basis:

Real learning gets to the heart of what it means to be human. Through learning we re-create ourselves. Through learning we become able to do something we never were able to do. Through learning we extend our capacity to create, to be part of the generative process of life. There is within each of us a deep hunger for this type of learning.

Recognition of the importance of the evaluation process is reflected in what's often called the Growth Cycle or the Evaluation Cycle, variations of which are used in the Total Quality Movement and other processes focussed on improvement and growth. Through weekly evaluation on a personal basis, we increase self-awareness, educate our conscience, and build effective habits of the heart.

It's important to use your compass -- to be deeply honest and self-aware when evaluating your week with questions you prepare for yourself to answer. It helps to connect with conscience, to use independent will and creative imagination to consider possibilities and commit to positive change.

It's also helpful to see each week as it connects to every other week.

The repeated process of organizing, acting and evaluating helps to see the consequences of our choices and actions more clearly. It's the four endowments in action. It empowers us to learn from living and to live what we learn.

With the command line you can use xattr to view and remove extended attributes from a file on the Mac including the application throwing the “Appname.app is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash.” error message.

Launch Terminal and then type the following command:

xattr -cr /path/to/application.app

For example:

xattr -cr /Applications/FileZilla.app

The -c flag removes all attributes, whereas -r applies recursively for the entire targeted .app directory contents.

This is only recommended to advanced users because modifying extended attributes may have unintended consequences, and again you might be attempting to run an app that you should not be running, either for stability, privacy, security, or other reasons.
